Firefighters are very helpful members of our communities. They have important jobs! They help protect us from fires. They offer assistance to people in need. Paco also learned some very important fire safety tips! Did you know that a smoke alarm has a test button? To make sure your smoke alarms are ready to alert you if there is a fire, make sure to test them at least once a month to see if they are working. Watch the video below from the U.S. Fire Administration for more on this safety tip. It is really important to know your address and how to dial 9-1-1 if there is a fire or other emergency. Paco likes to practice his address by saying it to the tune of the "Happy Birthday" song. The tune helps him remember it easily. You can try this with other well known songs too. What song will you choose?
Did you know that some cell phones are locked by a password? Paco learned how to use a locked cell phone to dial 9-1-1. Every phone is a little different but most have an "Emergency" button that can be used to make a call to 9-1-1 without the password. As a family, take a look at the phones in your house to make sure you know how to use them in case of emergency. Be sure to talk about when the right times are to call 9-1-1 too.
